Sophie Goodchild’s practice explores folklore, witchcraft and the absurd through textured surfaces referencing natural and biological phenomena—storms, osmosis, and fossilisation—blurring the boundaries between the organic and the supernatural. Through these layered forms, Goodchild examines cycles of life, decay, and renewal, merging historical symbolism with the forces of nature. Her intricately cast bronze sculptures of a squashed toad, historically linked to the Devil in medieval English tales, embodies themes of transformation and myth.
