Florence Postgate sees her work as a form of journal, reflection, re-remembering, worry. Little moments that have been maintained and kept, interested in seeking out the mundane, creating tangibility out of the intangible or the forgettable. Often Postgate’s work is autobiographical, using references from her own life, her own friends, family, objects she owns, tables she has sat at. Postgate uses paint as a form of research, her subjects inevitably warp and change throughout the creation of each piece. Subject to colour, form, texture, a combination of different aspects, some that she has control over and some that she doesn’t.
